Support Us

Common Wheel helps adults living with mental illness or dementia to find community, purpose and connection. We cannot do this without support from people who value our work. Every donation or fundraising effort helps us continue to provide group activities that help people feel valued and welcome.

Creating common good since 1997.

Many people living with mental illness or dementia struggle with isolation. Our projects, like Build Your Own Bike, Visual Arts, Music and Climbing, give people a chance to join in and feel part of a group. Every year, support from people like you keeps these projects running in Glasgow. Donations and help from individuals, businesses, and groups help Common Wheel cover costs for art materials, tools, music equipment and trained staff. Small donations make a difference.

Ways to Support Us

Make a Donation

Donating money allows us to plan ahead and offer regular sessions for more people. One-off or regular donations both help.

  • Donate online through our secure platforms
  • Choose a monthly donation if you want to give continued support.
  • Gift Aid increases your donation at no extra cost if you are a UK taxpayer

If you have questions about donating, email hello@commonwheel.org.uk for information or support.

Fundraise for us

Some people choose to organise fundraising events. This does not need to be complicated. Simple actions make a huge difference!

  • Sponsored walks or cycles
  • Coffee mornings
  • Creative events
  • Events such as Great Scottish Run and Kiltwalk

If you need ideas or information about how to start, our staff can help. We can supply information or leaflets and help share your event.

Donate your Time

Volunteering makes a huge difference to Common Wheel, and every minute makes a massive impact.  If you or your organisation have skills or time to help us, we would love to hear from you.  This could include:

  • Helping with fundraising efforts
  • Supporting with our projects or workshops
  • Group or workplace community initiatives

We would be delighted how you, your group or your organisation could find a role that makes a difference to the entire team and your community at Common Wheel.

Give your old bikes a new lease of life.

Do you have an old bike - in any condition - that you no longer need? Donate it to us an help make a positive impact on your local community!

If you have a bike that you no longer want, please consider donating it and we will use it for a Build Your Own Bike course, or recondition it and sell it on. It doesn't matter what state the bike is in. If it cannot be rebuilt we can usually use the parts.

We would be delighted to receive:

  • Old bikes - regardless of condition
  • Incomplete Bikes
  • Bike Parts
  • Bike Accessories or Tools

Why Meaningful Activity Matters

People living with mental illness or dementia are often left out or forced to the sidelines. Common Wheel aims to change this by offering places where everyone counts and each achievement matters. Tasks can be practical, creative, or physical. What matters most is the chance to connect with others, learn something new, and enjoy a regular, structured activity.

Our activities are designed so people can keep coming back as often as they wish. There is no pressure to meet targets or compete. Our staff and volunteers are on hand with support if people want it. Each person’s journey is respected.

We have seen first hand how these opportunities improve people's lives:

  • Better confidence and self-esteem
  • Reduced sense of loneliness or boredom
  • Practical skills that help in everyday life
  • Friendships and new connections
