Drop in Activities

Everyone is welcome at our drop in sessions. These are free activities, open to anyone who feels their mental health could benefit, and most do not require booking.

Join us at a drop in session

Before, taking part in Common Wheel often meant you needed a referral. Now you can come along to our drop in sessions with no referral and no cost. Sessions run at our Wellbeing Hub in Campbell House in the grounds of Gartnavel Royal Hospital, and at The Nook in the city centre.

Activities change from month to month, and we share what’s on through our website and social media. Some activities run as a single day while others happen in short blocks, such as four weeks of Tai Chi.

How to join us for a drop in session

Our drop in sessions are open. You do not need a referral, and you do not have to pay.

Most sessions are just turn up and take part. Some activities fill up quickly or have limited spaces so may need booking. If you are not sure whether a session needs a space reserved, check the event page on our website calendar. We update these details every month. We also share extra news about sessions on our social media pages.

We want these activities to feel straightforward and welcoming. If you have a question or would like to book one of the sessions that needs advance sign-up, you can contact Wendy. She can help explain what is on, if you need to book, or with anything else you are unsure about. Reach Wendy at wendy@commonwheel.org.uk or phone 0141 211 0668.

Most of the sessions are at Common Wheel’s Wellness Hub at Campbell House or at The Nook, which is in the city centre. These are easy to reach by public transport, and we are happy to help if you are not sure where to go.

We keep our calendar as current as possible so you always know what is coming up. Some activities are one-offs, others run for a few weeks. If you have an idea for a session or there is something you would like to see, let us know. Our programme evolves with what people enjoy and find helpful!

What kind of activities do we offer as drop ins?

Jewellery

Make pieces like earrings, necklaces, or bracelets. Materials are provided. There is support if you have never made jewellery before.

Painting

Try painting without rules. Anyone can give it a go. All that matters is that you enjoy the process and see what comes out on the canvas.

Lino Cutting

Carve your own design into a lino sheet and use it to print images and patterns. No art experience is needed. All tools and materials are supplied.

Language Tasters

Start to learn a new language in a relaxed way. Sessions focus on simple words and phrases. There is no pressure to remember everything.

Art in Nature Workshops

Spend time outside, using natural materials as tools or inspiration for art. Sessions are about noticing details and enjoying fresh air as much as the art you might make.

Photography

Use cameras or phones to see everyday things in a new way. Sessions explain basics and let you practise, at your own pace, inside or outdoors.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi helps with balance and gentle movement. Our sessions are suitable for all abilities. Instructors guide you through simple exercises.

Crochet

Learn how to hold the hook and start basic stitches. You can make a simple project or just practise in a calm, friendly space. All materials are supplied.

Creative Writing

Try writing in different forms. Some people write stories or poetry, others jot down thoughts. There is no right way to do it, and sharing is always your choice.

Wellbeing Sessions

Take part in activities that support relaxation and mental health. These can include breathing exercises, guided reflection, or mindfulness. The focus is on feeling a bit lighter and less tense.
