Day Trips

Our free day trips run around once a month and are open to anyone who feels their mental wellbeing would benefit from a change of scene. Booking is needed as spaces can fill up.

Let's go on a day trip!

We offer regular day trips for people who would like to get out, connect with others or simply try something new. You don’t need a referral. Each trip is free, and we visit a range of local attractions and places of interest. The aim is to make it simple to take a break from daily routine, visit new spaces or revisit favourite places in and around Glasgow. Trips help people get to know the city and meet others in a relaxed way. The outings are designed with everyone’s comfort in mind, make use of public or accessible transport options and always include a welcoming guide.

How to join us for a day trip

Day trips are open to any adult who would like to join. You don’t need a referral from a professional. Every trip is fully funded so there is no charge. We organise transport and do our best to make the day barrier-free whether that is accessible routes or support as needed.

Booking is required as spaces are usually limited. This helps everyone be comfortable and means no one misses out. You can book your place by emailing wendy@commonwheel.org.uk. Wendy can also answer questions about trips, help with transport information or tell you about upcoming destinations. All the current trips and booking details are shown on our website calendar.

We want these trips to be low pressure. You don’t need to join in every activity or feel any obligation to talk more than you want. The trips are a way to spend time in good company, and try out places and experiences that might feel hard to do alone. Some people find just being part of a group is enough. Others make new friends. However much or little you take part, you are welcome.

Where might we go?

Previous and popular destinations include

Glasgow City Chambers

Step inside one of Glasgow’s most impressive public buildings. Guided tours take you through grand rooms, marble staircases and show the history of the city council. The visit gives a different view of Glasgow’s civic life and its art and architecture.

Glasgow Botanic Gardens

Take time to walk among glasshouses and outdoor gardens full of plants from across the world. There is time to explore or just relax. The day is gentle, with seating areas, easy walks and the chance to pause in a green space in the heart of the city.

Japanese Gardens

Travel a little beyond Glasgow to see a Japanese garden built for calm and reflection. Water, bridges and planting give a sense of peace. The group spends time walking, sharing food and being outdoors somewhere different from usual routines.

Burrell Collection

Visit this much-loved museum in Pollok Park. The building is bright and easy to move around. Art and objects collected from many cultures are on display in open galleries, and there is space to stop for a chat, a coffee or some quiet time.

Mackintosh at the Willow

Experience Glasgow’s design history with a visit to Mackintosh at the Willow. Enjoy a tour, see original Willow Tearooms, and learn about Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s contribution to the city’s artistic legacy. The trip includes time for a cup of tea and conversation.

Kelvingrove

Walk through one of the city’s most popular museums and galleries. There are regular guided tours or plenty to explore at your own pace. The group can enjoy art, history and sometimes live organ music in the open, friendly setting of Kelvingrove’s halls.

Kelvinhall

Explore Kelvinhall with its mix of exhibitions, displays and sports facilities. The space is accessible and open, with friendly staff who make newcomers feel at ease. There’s always time on these trips to take things at your own pace.
