Recent research on our community music project

Kate Fraser recently interviewed 5 of our community music participants for her Masters Psychology research project at the University of Glasgow.

The research is titled ‘A cradle of support as you emerge from the darkness of mental illness: Participant experiences of Common Wheel’s community music group’.

She has already presented the results at the British Psychological Society Scottish Branch Post Graduate Conference and you can watch a 10 minute summary presentation below.

Bridgeton Opening Event

Thank you to everyone who joined us on the 9th of August to celebrate the reopening of our Bridgeton workshop and the UCI cycling championships in Glasgow. It was a brilliant day of crafts, food, bikes and music!

Gamelan workshops

We recently had Good Vibrations lead a block of Gamelan sessions for our Community Music Project. The participants and staff all really enjoyed learning about a completely different and new instrument.

Erskine Event

Common Wheel were out at Erskine celebrating the end of our BYOB Course where veterans learned to build their own bikes. It was a brilliant event, especially in the sun. Carnival Club showcased their colourful trike and our music team played some music for everyone to enjoy.

Creative Collusion

Carnival Club and Tunes Up collaborated to perform Creative Collusion, a dramatic mix of visual arts and music, at the Hub at Gartnavel Royal Hospital. The piece began with a procession of lanterns down the hill and into the performance space. The audience enjoyed the music and our participants enjoyed showcasing their talents.

This new composition by Andrew Cruickshank,  using lyrics written by people in and associated with Gartnavel Royal Hospital, was performed in the Hub at GRH.  Feedback from the audience was very positive. There is a recording on SoundCloud
